Connecting Hi-Fi speakers to a computer?
My Hi-Fi system broke, so now I'm stuck with a pair of large speakers to use with. Each has only a red and black cable from the back, I'd like to connect to a headphone jack somehow. Is there any way to do this without having to buy an expensive amp?
It is possible, but from a computer does not have much in the way power amp in it you will not get much volume. Option 1: You get a 1 / 8 inch, also called 3.5 mm stereo jack. This is called a "TRS" cap "point, ring, sleeve. "If you look closely at the end of spark plug connector of the tip is the end, the ring is the narrow ring-shaped contact is beside the point, and the sleeve is longer and runs back to base. At the other end of the plug contacts are going to solder wires to. The contact of the manga, obviously meets the sleeve pin, is the longest, and usually includes a clamp that tightens around the cable with pliers to provide mechanical strength. The contact point is the one that goes the heart of the Assembly, and is the youngest of the three. The ring is in the middle. Wiring is simple: Connect the black wire from both speakers to the sleeve of the plug. The red wire left speaker is going to tip, and the red wire goes right speaker to the plaza. (R for right, R ring) However, these caps are quite small - if you are not experienced such things soldering is not recommended. And you will not get much volume. Option 2: If you do not want to be connected to the soldering bit, but still do not want buy an amplifier ... Buy a 1 / 8 "stereo jack to dual RCA plug adapter cable. Aso buy a pair of RCA (RCA, Cinch) jacks (female connectors) and solder the speaker wires to the jacks. For each of the speakers, the red wire goes to the center of the shot and the black wire to the outer layer or lug. This is one heck of a lot easier soldering directly to a 1 / 8 "plug. Then plug the RCA connector RCA jack black on the left speaker, the red RCA plug into the speaker jack right and plug the other end of the cable into the headset out of the computer. But even gong to be very, very weak, as some need large speakers and power amplifier a computer headset is designed only for power. Option 3: You get better sound if you buy a small amplifier. There is a category Amplifier called "T-AMP" (based on the chip they use) that produces a decent sound, about 20 WPC, for under $ 50. It is very simple - in general, has only two entries for stereo volume control, and two outputs for the speakers. Just search for "T-AMP" on the web. Make sure that the receiver comes with a power house Power - Supply: The cheapest T-amp is required 12 volts DC in. You have to buy an adapter cable with a connector 1 / 8 "stereo in a end and two RCA plugs (also called RCA audio connectors or sockets) on the other, one black, one red, from computer headphones to this amplifier. Or, some T-amp has a 1 / 8 "phone jack input. In this case, you'd want a cable stereo 1 / 8" phone jacks at each end. Either these cables must be less than $ 10. Btw if your hi-fi speakers decent otherwise this will give much better sound than any other set of "computer speakers". Answers: Sorry, but the idea xbonez 'will not work. The speakers do not have RCA jacks or cats, only the cables. The red and black RCA connectors on the adapter cable first time we're talking not correspond to + and - to a single speaker. And the second adapter is not split a stereo output on the left and right channels. See option 2 but for how you can use that Miniphone-to-RCA adapter cable. CYG idea of getting old receiver is a great idea. As everyone has gone to surround sound, stereo-receivers only an oversupply in the market and very cheap. Any pawnshop probably have a few, but you can usually get better prices on craigslist. Also thrift stores can and that sort of thing. A store that specializes in used audio or audio vintage equipment will be slightly higher prices, but commodity generally more reliable. Just make sure you can prove that the controls and make no noise when you turn them. It will be a little more expensive than the T-amp and quite a bit more large, but much more powerful and more complete as well. You still need the miniature phone plug to dual RCA cable. If T-amp or receiver of age, result will sound much better than any "computer speakers" ever made.
