I want to leave my iPhone on and in the charging dock all night so I can use my alarm clock app?

I bought an alarm clock app and I want to replace my real alarm clock with this alarm clock app because it shows the weather and news feeds too. But I am well aware of overcharging batteries as I ruined my Alienware MX17 laptop battery and countless other gadgets due to overcharging or just leaving things plugged in. But I really like this clock app and dock idea and why would they make the app unless you could do it like that? I know...to waste people's money. Anyway, is there any hope this that I can make this work without screwing up my iPhone battery life?

the iphone actually features an Li-Ion battery. Despite popular belief, Li-Ion batteries have NO memory, which means that they can be charged and recharged and not mess up the battery life. But, they still have a lifespan, they are good for about 500 charges. If you leave your phone plugged in overnight, it will not damage your battery. Most phones have chips that tell them when the phone is finished charging, and will not CHARGE the phone, but simply apply a small drip to make up for the power being used.
