What is the best way to extend this Logitech Z-2300 speaker cable?

I just bought the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speaker system. The cables hook the speakers to the subwoofer are too short for my installation. I need two or three feet in one or both of the cables. The cables are wired directly to the speaker and plug into the subwoofer. Is there a safe way that can make the cable longer without damaging the speaker or performance? Stop by Radio Shack and ask at "2 (insert exact length you need, leaving room for a bit of slack, the shorter the better) mono-to-female-male RCA cables with gold tips." Obtain brand name (such as THX, Belkin, Logitech Monster Cable) but not to waste too, there really is not much difference between brands. It should not cost more than $ 15 each.
