Why does my ipod shut off randomly?

I have a 120 GB Classic Ipod. I listen to it will traveling thru the vechile speakers. It worked fine before. But on my last trip home, which is 4 hours, my ipod would play for so long and then it would shut down and go to the apple logo on the screen. If i wait for a few minutes it goes to the main screen and I would have to start my playlist over or find the last song play and go from there. Is there something I can do that it wouldn't happen?

Then, restore it back to factory settings, if that fails then contact apple.
